Kira Stonem

Kira sat downstairs, cigarette in hand, trailing smoke as she listened to the thumping sound upstairs - her mother trying to find things in the mess that was their new house, probably. She was surrounded by boxes and it would be depressing for some people, but she kind of liked it. She often felt claustrophobic in their old house in Surrey - it was bigger and airier than this, but it was also stuffy and filled with the sounds of her parents shouting. Or, at least, that's how it was at the end, after her mother had an affair with her dad's boss.

Her father was going to leave, but then her mother said no, she'd leave. She couldn't stand it in their old house either and she said she wanted to move far, far away. At first Kira thought she'd meant to the opposite end of England, but it turns out that she meant America. And so here she was.

She wasn't sure if she missed her father or not. He was loud and obnoxious, but he was her father. Kira wasn't sure how to feel about it all, so she usually ignored it. Hid from it, really. She was good at hiding things. Concealing them.

She was so good, in fact, that no one really knew her at all.

And they never would.
